Metro Puerto Rico

A compilation of three years as a healthcare reporter and a Report for America corps member.

Author Profile

During three years as a healthcare reporter in Metro Puerto Rico, a digital outlet and weekly newspaper, over 500 stories were published with support from Report Local’s Report for America program. About 20 of my pieces were front page in 154 print publications between July 2023 and June 2026, aside from other headlining stories shared daily, exclusively on socials.

The piece, “Persisten tropiezos para movilidad de adultos mayores,” was awarded Best Multimedia Chronicle in the 31st edition of the Journalists’ Association of Puerto Rico award ceremony. The story was the first of a three-part series that explored the struggles and needs of elders’ mobility and the stagnant processes to effect change for this purpose.

For my healthcare coverage with an inclusive lens, I was honored by the Association of Clinical Laboratories for “Excellence in Health Journalism” in both digital and print media, while a trans group called “Transformando la comunidad” recognized me as an ally journalist for the story, “Falta de atención médica para jóvenes con disforia de género.“
